Welcome to Tuna Runa

Fourth and Fifth Grade Grading

Course objectives: Present the application of technology to students in a meaningful way that is relevant to their world and future. Students will learn how to use technological tools in preparation for 21st century problems and solutions. All lessons will tie back to Common Core Standards as well as NET*S Standards.

We will be creating and working with podcasts, Prezis or PowerPoints, Excel spreadsheets, research, desktop publishing, computing safety, programming, and computer science principles.

Home Access Center - HAC

You should have received information about HAC earlier this summer. If you do not have your username and password, please contact the school office for more information.
For technology, your child’s grades are posted on HAC within two days of their class period (usually much sooner).

https://hac.doe.k12.de.us/HomeAccess/

I encourage you to visit the site frequently and review your child’s grades. I also encourage you to visit the site with your child so that you can communicate your appreciation for their hard work. Teach your child how to log into to the site as well. This is a great tool to encourage children to become vested participants in their own growth and progress.

Types of Grades

I have six types of grades. Some grade are awarded each class while others are awarded once or twice a marking period.

Esprit de Corps (participation): This means morale of the group. One person's participation can have a positive influence on a group. Likewise, one person's participation can also have a negative influence on a group. Students receive an Esprit de Corps grade each period based on how they allow the group to learn. Students can earn more that 300 Esprit de Corps points if he or she acts above and beyond the expectation of the class. Entire classes can receive bonus points if they group works cooperatively.

Minus points: Minus 10 points per disruption. I call home to review and reinforce proper behavior if a child is deducted 50 points. If a child is deducted points after the 50 point mark, they are sent to the office. .

If they are absent, students do not need to make up this grade.

Mini-Mission: This is a lesson reflection designed to increase typing fluency. Reflection is a major component in deeper learning and self-to-world connection. This grade is earned every class period and it must be made up if a child is absent.

Regrading

Learning happens in many places and at different times. Therefore, I strongly believe that students can and should demonstrate knowledge as they learn. Students are encouraged to resubmit grades if they are not pleased with their performance. Regrading can take place at any time during the marking period.

Quests, Missions and Away Missions (Out of Class Opportunities)
There will never be enough time to explore all the aspects of students’ interest in school but that does not mean they cannot get credit for their knowledge. If a student completes a project at home and it involves computers and/or digital technology, have them bring it in and they can earn credit for their knowledge. The will need to complete a Mission/Quest/Away Mission Form to earn the credit. This form is to help me understand what they child learned through the activity.
